Day 334

A few days ago I watched a video clip featuring an incredible story about a store robbery that took place in 2010 just a few miles away from where I live.

Marian Chadwick owns her own boutique in Frisco Texas.  One night as she was finishing up her last sale, a man in a ski mask pointing a gun at her face, demanded she give him all of her money.  It was as they call it, “a stick up.”  Her store surveillance videos captured it all on tape.

Marian did not cooperate with the masked robber instead she pointed her finger at him and told him and I quote, “In the name of Jesus, you get out of my store. I bind you by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

The man took a few steps back, the store owner continued demanding him to leave in the name of Jesus, and he did.  He walked out of the store taking nothing but his potty mouth, ski mask, and gun with him.

I LOVE that story for two reasons.  One.  Marian reminds me of my mom.  I know without a doubt my mom would have done the exact same thing because growing up I saw her tell everything from tornadoes to neighbors with baseball bats to leave in Jesus’ name and they did.  And two because it reminded me how powerful the name of Jesus really is.

We often refer to the name of Jesus as precious and it is, but it’s not just precious it’s powerful!

It’s hard to know if I was in the same situation what my response would be.  The police said Marian should have just handed over the money because money is replaceable, life isn’t, and she could have provoked the robber to shoot her, but she said she did what she did because she knew the power of God was present.  The truth is, I will probably never be involved in a stick up like that, but I know that I am guaranteed to face trials and tribulations brought on by a different type of robber.

This robber doesn’t wear a ski mask and carry a gun, but he does like to steal stuff.

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;…

We have an enemy, his name is Satan, and he comes ONLY to steal, kill, and destroy.  His goal is to destroy every single person living and that’s always been his goal.  Why hasn’t he succeeded?  Why do we still have a human race?  Because of the second part of John 10:10

I have come that they may have life,  and have it to the full.

Satan has taken some serious blows at the human race, but he can never accomplish his goal of total destruction because of one man… Jesus.  The one that came so we could have life and have it to the full!

The name of Jesus makes him cringe.  He can’t stand it.  I believe that’s why the bank robber, who was under the control of Satan, had to leave that ladies shop.  Satan did not want to hear that powerful name.  He didn’t want to be reminded that he’s been defeated.

When Satan walks into your life and starts trying to steal, kill, or destroy begin to point your finger and tell him to leave in the name of Jesus.

Philippians 2:9-10 Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

“Your Great Name” by Natalie Grant sums up the powerful name of Jesus beautifully.

Lost are saved, find their way

At the sound of Your great name

All condemned, feel no shame

At the sound of Your great name Every fear has no place

At the sound of Your great name

The enemy, he has to leave

At the sound of Your great name All the weak find their strength

At the sound of Your great name

Hungry souls receive grace

At the sound of Your great name The fatherless, they find their rest

At the sound of Your great name

Sick are healed and the dead are raised

At the sound of Your great name
