Day 274

Last week I got to hear the tiny little heart beat that belongs to the baby growing in my womb for the first time.  It was such an exciting day.  We broke the news to our family and friends and people were calling, texting, and messaging me their congratulations like crazy.  It was such a victory filled day… but it was also a busy day.  I had taken time to thank God on the way home from my appointment, but it just didn’t feel adequate enough.  I wanted to do something special for the one who had done something special for me.

My husband and my son were out having a guy’s night that evening so after I put my daughter to bed I decided to spend some quality time offering quality praise to God.  I knelt beside my bed and poured my love out on Him.  It was one of the sweetest times with the Lord I’ve ever had.  I’m so grateful that I didn’t let the excitement of the day keep me from that.

We seem to be great at spending quality time with God when we need something or when we are going through a dark time, but when things brighten up our desperation for Him dims down.  We aren’t too busy for God when we need a miracle, but when things are going smoothly He becomes an afterthought.

After I delivered my son stillborn at 20 weeks I pressed into God like never before, with the intension of staying pressed in for the rest of my life.  I wanted the hunger I had for Him to never be satisfied.  Life got easier every day, but I continued to seek Him everyday, like I did when things were darkest.  My heart had been healed but I wanted Him to know I still needed Him, because I did.

“Love Come Down” is such a beautiful song written by Brian Johnson.  He writes about when times are tough and when times are great and how our response to God should be the same in either case.

If my heart is overwhelmed
And I cannot hear Your voice
I hold on to what is true
Though I cannot see
If the storms of life they come
And the road ahead gets steep
I will lift these hands in faith
I will believe

I’ll remind myself
Of all that You’ve done
And the life I have
Because of Your son

When my heart is filled with hope
Every promise comes my way
When I feel Your hands of grace
Rest upon me

Staying desperate for You, God
Staying humble at Your feet
I will lift these hands in praise
I will believe

I’ll remind myself
Of all that You’ve done
And the life I have
Because of Your son

In the storms and in the triumphs we need to stay desperate for God.  We need to stay humbled at His feet.  We need to spend quality time with Him every day.  We need to remind ourselves of the life we have because of Jesus, everyday.

When things turn around for you or you finally get your answer to prayer, don’t let up.  Devote the same amount of energy you put into your prayer requests into the praise that you give to God when your prayers are answered.  He is worthy of your quality time in every season of your life.

  1. God is ALWAYS worthy.
  2. The life I have because of His son.
  3. In the sun or rain, my life celebrates!
  4. I spent time quality time with God after a victory… I’ll never forget that night.  I learned that quality time with Him when things are on the up and up can be just as sweet as the time spent with him when we are hurting or needing.

  14. Beau is so excited about Gus’ birthday.  She practices singing happy birthday to him everyday.
