Day 10

It’s amazing how many scriptures in the Bible are about praise and thanksgiving.  Of course since I’m on a mission to find 10,000 reasons to be thankful, those scriptures really stand out to me right now.  I got in bed last night worried about something small and not worth worrying about.. not that anything is worth worrying about, but this was just really not that big of a deal, but I found this scripture a few minutes later and I went to sleep thinking about this instead of worrying about that.

Philippians 4:6 “Don’t fret or worry.  Instead of worrying, pray.  Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.  Before you know it,a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.  It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

Every area of our life is a concern to God.  He doesn’t ask us not to worry he commands us too, and then tells us to turn what we are worrying about into a prayer.  I love how the message says it.  “Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers.”  I think he adds praises in there so we don’t get a whiny spirit on us.  It’s easy to be whiny when we are coming to God with a need or petition about something we are worried about, but It’s hard to be thankful and whiny at the same time.  So I am taking my petition AND my praise and turning it into a prayer I know God will hear and answer!

  1. Philippians 4:6
  2. The friendly reminder not to be whiny, but thankful when we petition.
  3. That every area of my life is a concern to God.
  4. That God doesn’t just tell us not to worry, but He tells us what to do instead.
  5. The cool weather this morning.
  6. We live in a cul-de-sac.. perfect for kicking around the soccer ball with the kids this morning
  7. Josh is aware of his responsibility to keep our family from becoming vulnerable to attacks from the enemy.
  8. Josh prays for me and our kids.
  9. Pandora.
  10. Gus is and always has been a great eater.
  11. Sheepy blankets.  Both kids got one from Grammy (my mom) before they were born and they both sleep with them and probably will until they disintegrate.. the blankets, not the kids.
  12. Baby Wise book.
  13. When Gus asked me to watch him hop like a frog today while I was busy God told me to stop and really watch and enjoy that moment..  he’s growing up too fast.
  14. Josh said I was cool today on FB.
  15. Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives..  found some good lookin’ burger places in Ft Worth we can check out next week thanks to Guy!
  16. We decided early on in our marriage “no news is good news” so we never watch the news.  Thankful I don’t have to think on things that aren’t pleasing to God for an hour every night.
  17. As I was in my office today I could hear Gus pretending so intensely in the next room.  Glad he gets to be near even when I’m working.
  18. For just $100 I will be able to see stuff for the next 6-8 months.  1-800contacts!
  19. That this blog helps me to write out what God’s showing me in the word and that helps me remember it even better.
  20. The little scribbles in my journal that Beau made.
  21. It was not too hot to eat outside tonight!  I like when birds clean up the crumbs instead of me.
  22. My sweet friend JJ.  I know God brought her into my life many years ago to be by my side now as we walk through similar situations together.
  23. Memories of my dad giving me baths and blow drying my hair for me when I was a little girl.  Don Henley & Fleetwood Mac providing the music.
  24. That my mom came and checked on me every night after I went to sleep up until the day I got married.
  25. That Gus always prefers me to read his bed time stories and Josh always takes it personally.
  26. Toothpaste!
  27. The righteous person faces many troubles, BUT the Lord comes to the rescue each time.  (Ps 34:19)
  28. The song “Forgiven” by Sanctus Real.  I heard this for the first time today while I was running and the words were so powerful coming through my earbuds.  I’m so glad I’ve been forgiven.

I love that you can remember the little things we did when you were small. All those little things add up to the kind of character you have because you felt secure and loved always. I know you do countless things for your kids and husband everyday. Even this blog is building us and everyone who reads it up in the Lord. Everything you do is building up your family and the Kingdom of God. I LOVE THE LITTLE THINGS.
